Chris,

Your question is somewhat vague and maybe incomplete.
I will do my best to give you an answer that will help you.

The only reason to go to a lesser pitch is to allow the engine to get to
highter crankshaft speed at some important condition. If the engine
sounds as though it is "bogging" when you are at cruising speed or if
you spend a great deal of time manuvering and need max thrust at zero
speed, you might try reducing the pitch. If you can barrow a small
engine tachometer then you will know if you are getting close to the
engine's rated speed. Running the engine faster than teh rated speed
will not usually provide more power and will serve to shorten the
engine's useful life.

Your Aquarius 23 is just over a ton and board up will have little drag.
It is my bet that the prop that the Merc came with will do. If you
can barrow another prop to try out, that would be a good thing to do but
I would not spend money on one to try it out.

If you tell me more about the conditions, I can give you a better answer.
