Ah, yes. That's the sound of your Caps Lock button trying to unstick itself. :) SOMEONE MENTIONED TO ME IT COULD BE THE U JOINTS . ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO A BOAT THAT IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD Nah, it's definitely the Caps Lock button... Seriously, ever do any motoring with the outdrive all the way up in the trailering position? That can really do a number on your U-joints, even on a relatively new boat. -- ~/Garth - 1966 Glastron V-142 Skiflite: "Blue-Boat" "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." -- Kenneth Grahame ~~ Ventis secundis, tene cursum ~~ |

ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO A BOAT THAT IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD ================================== Yup, it happened to me with my '88 OMC. I had always had straight inboards and no one told me about the 2 zerk fittings on the U-joints. The lower unit should be pulled and the joints greased every spring or no more than 100 hours. Not sure, but I think the OMC and the Volvo lower units are quite similar and HEAVY! Unless you have 2 huskies to lift it, a hoist of somekind is necessary. I rigged an double A-frame with sort of a trolley that worked quite well and I could get it on and off alone. Its pretty obvious that your U-joints are blown, so you'll probably have to take to a marine service place. When I had this done, it ran about $400, but it included aligning the drive, adjusting the shift module and a new bellows. After this service, it was better than when it when new. I do the zerks every 50 hours now and no further problem. Good luck, Norm Thanks Norm for the info and yes thats what Ive been finding out that the OMC and Volvo are quite similar. |
