capacity plate

I'm registering my 25' Carver and the form says I need to fill out the
capacity plate info. To my knowledge, it doesn't have a capacity
plate. It says if this is the case, fill out a cap plate form, which I
did, but on that form it says I only need a capacity plate if my boat
is less than 20'. So...do I need one, or not? Anyone know the specs on
a 1977 Carver Santa Cruz?

If the plate is actually missing (get advice from others here about possible
locations first), you can contact the manufacturer with the particulars of
the boat including the hull number. They will send you a capacity plate. It
may be lower than the original due to tightening regulation since 1977.

See...again, I'm getting different advice. The boat is 25'. So I don't
need one?
But on the registration form, it says "Capacity plate information: Must
be filled out." Then on the instructions page, it says that boats
under 20ft are required to display a capacity plate. Also, "If the
boat does not have a capacity plate, complete form [blah blah blah]."
But that form is the request for a capacity plate, which all suggests
that I really do actually need one.

Does anyone else find this confusing?
