West Bend Shrimp 3.5 hp air cooled
I just purchased a small outboard motor that does not look worn at
all. It is a West Bend Shrimp 3.5 hp air cooled. Model: 2202, serial: 1089. I would like to know: - what year aprox. model 2202 was made? - if parts are still availlable and where? - could I use a mixture of 25:1 good 2 stroke oil instead of the recomended 1:16 ? It will need minor repairs. I expect the propeller and shaft seals will need replacements and I can foresee the carburator large gasket will be needed also. Happy boating this summer! |
West Bend Shrimp 3.5 hp air cooled
The 3.5hp was probably built in the late 50's or early 60's. (I no
longer have access to the parts manuals). West Bend was bought out years ago by Chrysler Marine and then sold by them to Brunswick. (Mercury Marine). You might try a Merc dealer or do a search online for parts. I believe that the engine used WICO ignition parts. A good modern two stroke oil (Chain saw for example) may work ok at 25 to one but, considering that the engine uses bronze bushings instead of needle bearings, I would stick with the original recommendation. Good luck and good boating, Jim wrote: I just purchased a small outboard motor that does not look worn at all. It is a West Bend Shrimp 3.5 hp air cooled. Model: 2202, serial: 1089.
