Those Hot Chicks!
Harry Krause wrote: NEW YORK, May 31 -- As Taking The Long Way debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart this week, with first week's sales of 525,829, the Dixie Chicks have become the first female group in chart history to have three albums debut at #1, breaking the record the Chicks established in 2002 when the group's last studio album, Home, debuted at #1 and made them the first female group ever to have two albums debut at #1. With the #1 debut of Taking The Long Way, the Dixie Chicks have also become the first female group in chart history to have three studio albums occupy the #1 slot on the Top 200. Taking The Long Way has achieved one of the year's Top 5 first week's sales tallies and has the best first week's sales for any female act on the Top 200 in 2006. In addition to its chart-topping success in America, Taking The Long Way has just debuted at #2 in Australia. # # # Good things can happen when you leave the rednecks behind. Yeah, they're good, and they've been kicked around by the hillbillies because they actually have brains and don't lock step to the party. |

Would that be the Democrat party, the party of Toby Keith? From Mr. Keith's homepage: I'm a lifetime registered Democrat. That completely freaks people out. I helped to campaign in Oklahoma (for Democratic Gov. Brad Henry.) I always vote for the guy who can get it done. And it ain't nobody's business who I vote for, but I voted for Clinton twice. http://tobykeith.musiccitynetworks.c...5&news_id=7055 BWWAAAAHAAA!!!! He finds ONE LOUSY DEMOCRAT and thinks he's found some divine inspiration.........grow up. And here, learn something: http://www.motherjones.com/arts/book.../rednecks.html http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/bibli...1-0895260735-1 According to a story from americannewsreel.com sent to RRC by former Reprise president Howie Klein, "Phone calls originating from Republican Party headquarters in Washington went out to country stations, urging them to remove the Chicks from their playlists. The 'alternative concert' [to the Dixie Chicks' tour opener] is actually the work of the South Carolina Republican Party and party officials are helping promote the concert. We received a call from 'Gallagher's Army,' urging us to support the alternative concert. Caller ID backtraced the call to South Carolina GOP headquarters." Chain radio stations were quick to dump the Chicks because their parent companies (Clear Channel, Viacom, et al) have pressing business in the nation's capitol and they want help from the Republican Party. What part of that don't you understand? |

The reason why it's always a leftie involved in these incidents is that RECORD COMPANIES, HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS AND TELEVISION PRODUCERS ONLY HIRE LEFT-WINGERS. Check the Billboard Hot 100. Any Republican hip-hoppers on there? The box office Top Ten. Any flicks by right-wing directors, producers, or stars? How about network sitcoms? Standup comics? Broadway shows? Lefties, lefties, lefties. The reality is, that but for a few country artists, THE FAR-LEFT POWER BROKERS IN THE MOTION PICTURE, MUSIC, TELEVISION AND THEATER INDUSTRIES HIRE FAR-LEFT ENTERTAINERS AND ONLY FAR-LEFT ENTERTAINERS. That's a fascinating conclusion. Don't you think, though, that the "power brokers" are more simply motivated? I imagine their discussions of who to hire and promote has everything to do with who will make them money and not what someones political paradigm might be. Then, again, this concept might be too difficult for me since I have trouble seeing conspiracies around every corner. |

There are very very few "artists," performing, creative, or otherwise, on the "right hand side" of the political spectrum. The very nature of "conservatism" is the antithesis of artistic creativity. As someone who has a son and daughter who are very artistic, I do have to agree. Their brains work completely different than those who use their right side of their brain (or is that the left side of the brain) -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it. |

What about a response to "Good Night, And Good Luck" showing that Joe McCarthy never identified someone as a communist who wasn't in fact a communist? Oh please, before you try promoting that drunk to hero, you might want to consider the damage he did honest investigations of Soviet espionage. We now know that there were at least 350 Soviet spies working in this country. Want to guess how many McCarthy uncovered? As Truman then said about McCarthy, "the best asset the Kremlin has." Oh, and by the way, being a communist isn't now, and wasn't then, illegal. |

Ayn Rand was a liberal, by the way. Stunned. Not meaning to argue on this point, really, I figure Harry knows a liberal from a conservative better than me (I find it sometimes hard to tell, if you aren't wearing a label) but Ayn Rand? A liberal? Really? Compared to ... Atilla the Hun???? Maybe I should try, again, to read one of her tomes. She was the favourite author of the most right-wing guy I ever dated. Threw out the books, along with him. |

There are very very few "artists," performing, creative, or otherwise, on the "right hand side" of the political spectrum. The very nature of "conservatism" is the antithesis of artistic creativity. Tell that to Mel Gibson. Seriously, my gut feeling is that there are certainly more outspoken liberals in the arts than conservatives, but I have know way of knowing what the true percentage breakdown might be. Anecdotally, two of the most right wing families I know have just sent their oldest kids (with right wing views) off to art schools. Still, I don't see a Hollywood conspiracy to do anything other than promote the product and the artist that most Americans want to pay money to see. I doubt very strongly that on the population scale there is any discussion of who to hire and which screen play to turn into a movie based on politics. |
