Mariner vs MercCruiser

Can somebody enlighten me to the difference? Mariner is made by Merc,
right? Is it as good/as bad?

I just inherited a 115 Mariner with my boat. It runs but needs some work
and I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. I have a chance to buy a 1 yr
old MercCruiser 125 for next to nothing.

I think your talking Mariner vs Mercury outboard. MerCruiser is an I/O and
Mariner only makes outboards.
As for the difference, no difference if it was made by Mercury. Real old
Mariners were actually made by Mariner.
Just like Johnson and Evinrude.

Yes, I meant Mercury outboards.

Got it thanks. That makes perfect sense. Yes, I meant Mercury outboards.
