Based on positive feedback from those with internet phone service I wish I
could get it in my area......but not one company yet offers it. Comcast
should be providing it within a year or 2. We are paying $60/month on
average for our phone service, even with a long distance calling plan
packaged in.

No. I don't want a phone based on Internet connectivity. Power outage = no
phone. And, I hardly make any long distance calls. Better off to use the
cell phone for the few I make.

Jim, here's Vonage in your area:
http://www.vonage.com/avail.php?lid=nav_avail

Looks like SunRocket is there by this map, but you need to check with
your area code then first three digits of your phone #:
https://www.sunrocket.com/sign_up/av...labilityMap.do

Same with USA Datanet:
http://www.usadatanet.com/longDistance.html

I had some initial problems (lost calls about half a dozen times) but their
customer support seems pretty good. They finally talked me through
adjusting the rates on the gizmo, and I've not had a problem since. Every
once in a while I'll hear an echo, but that's been it.

I've gone ahead with the switch for my old telephone number, and can't wait
to tell Verizon to cancel my service.

Have you plugged your SunRocket into the wall and powered all the other
jacks with the SunRocket service?

The power outage problem is when I get out the cell phone, which hardly
ever gets used anyway.

I *am* lucky that I live in an area which has had very few power outages.
In the past eleven years we've had only one outage that lasted longer than
15 minutes, and that was for only about four hours.

the telephony quality is excellent. Every few days I'll get an echo for
about 2 seconds, other than that, my Vonage has less noise than my
Bellsouth phone line had. My cable internet is very reliable, again
about as reliable as Bellsouth. I hated Bellsouth, and when the
technology became available to **** can them, I did just that!

The voice quality is better than that over Verizon. I've got hearing
problems and always have the phone volume as loud as it will go. With VOIP,
I have to turn the volume down.

Vonage offers the service in your area, and you can keep your current
phone number.

I have used Vonage for 3 months, and have been very pleased with the
service.

If anyone wants to try the service, they offer 1 month free. Also, I
get two months free for recommending a friend, so if you are interested
let me know and I will "recommend" you.

Reginald P. Smithers May 17th 06 05:23 PM

Did you check Vonage? They have a link you can check to make sure you
can transfer your phone. You are able to do this in most major
markets.

I found Bellsouth's service, to be typical of all monopolies. I jumped
at the chance to change providers.

vonage is first class.

If you are downloading large files, it is best to discontinue the
download while on the phone or limit the bandwidth available for
downloads on the computer.

My Verizon number got transferred a couple days ago. Now I can call them
and cancel the $85 a month service I've been getting. Since I've changed
the allocated bandwidth (?) to the SunRocket gizmo, I've had no problems.

Whenever anyone's ready to switch, let me know so I can give you a number
to use showing me as a referral.

[NOTE: Reggie, I'm not trying to draw any potential Vonnage customers, but
after all, SunRocket, at $16.58 per month for everything *is* a lot
cheaper!]

Not to the modem, but to the little box sent by SunRocket which goes
between the modem and the computer. Believe it or not, SunRocket calls the
thing 'Gizmo'. I had to go to a site given to me by SunRocket and put in an
upload speed which would be allocated to the Gizmo.
