It doesn't look like it's got any 3D relief to it. I also wonder if maybe the plate has gone missing. Not sure how anyone could have missed anything that obvious. The numbers should be stamped into the plate. If so, it's possible to get a rubbing by pressing very lightly with the pencil. Even the smallest depression will show up with a careful enough technique. I'd be reluctant to buy a boat with a missing HIN. Theoretically, the plate isn't supposed to be removable without doing some serious damage to the hull.....but I wouldn't be easily convinced that's the case by looking at the plate in the photo. Almost looks like its held on with pop rivets. (!) |
