I had some winter projects that I did at home, including laminating a new custom tiller out of teak. I tried to find a company to do this, but once I sent them a photo of what I wanted, they all stopped replying to my emails. It's an unusual design. The actual time at the boat before launch included installing the new stuff. The bottom gets done every other year, and this was not the year. I spent probably a total of 16-20 hours at the boat yard all inclusive. 3. What exactly did you do/have done to the boat to prep it? Other than upgrades, all I did was uncover the boat, wash it with plain water, apply two maintenance coats of Poliglow. That was about 4 hours. 4. Did you do it yourself or contract it out? I do everything myself. As usual, I was the first sailboat in the water at my marina. There were a few small center console fishing boats in before me. 5. What size is your boat? Just right! Just need to drop the mast from its slightly suspended position to snug up against the cabin for travel. Probably will go in the water next week. Would do it this weekend but our favourite extra hand is traveling to Florida for a convention. We will either enlist less experienced help or wait till he gets back. 2. How much time did you spend prepping your boat for launch? A few hours 3. What exactly did you do/have done to the boat to prep it? remove tarp. Remove the frame that supports the tarp when it is piled with 10 feet of snow. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. (just kidding about the repeat part) Get outboard serviced/checked out Last year we stripped and refinished the teak - that took a few days. 4. Did you do it yourself or contract it out? The outboard is done by professional types. Anything else is DIY. 5. What size is your boat? 21' Sirius sailboat. Stella |

All the time, on the way on our many day rides from the North shore of Long Island up the Hudson River. (Traditionally, we used to launch for those rides from Cold Spring Harbor, but recently my buddy has turned me on to the ramp on the west shore of Hempstead Harbor, Bar Beach I think it's called, that is worth the long extra drive in the car to get to, because of how much closer it is to the Hudson and back and the end of the day....in the late-afternoon chop that's usually the L.I. Sound at the end of the riding day, it's nice to be coming under the Throg's Neck, look at my handlebar-mounted gps and see there's only 6 miles back to the launch spot instead of the 20 I used to see at that point.) Another early season ride we've already done was from Orient Point to the Connectut River and up that for maybe 40 miles and back....so it's been a great start, we've already covered lots of ground and a bunch of different places just in this "pre-season" part of the year. Now I'm planning a second annual trip with my wife to go riding in the Thousand Islands (St. Lawrence river) this summer, had said I couldn't afford it this year but I'm finding if I just cut it shorter by a couple days and stay in much cheaper Clayton rather than the much-fancier Riverview hotel/marina in Alex. Black Dog and/or Stella (the dog's name) has been my internet alter-ego since 1994. Specifically, I use Black Dog in the newsgroups because it is not gender specific - back in the early '90's newsgroups were much more hostile places to women than they are now, and I, of course, was younger and more easily scared. Now I sign my posts with Stella so people know I am female - guess you could say I've come a long way, baby! Stella What's with everyone wanting a Labrador Retriever these days? My sister has a Black Lab & my nephew a Chocolate Lab. My wife wants to get an English Springer Spaniel this fall. And my Yellow Lab just died. I love Labs, but I'll not have another one. Get to attached to the damn things! -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** Labs, boxers, dalmations........it does not matter the breed nor type of animal. We all become attached to and love them. |

Labs are great dogs and certainly have great temperaments. You should post a picture of her at alt.binaries.pictures.sports.ocean (the "other" place). Don't have access to that group anymore (little trouble with the newserver at home and the one at work cuts out the big files). But here are a couple of my favourites from last summer, The look of concentration reserved for food and fetchable objects: http://photos1.blogger.com/img/143/6...atta%20055.jpg I really like this picture. You can't see the dog but I think it captures the essence of the lab. A sunny day, a lake, a stick - won't somebody come out and play? http://photos1.blogger.com/img/143/6...atta%20056.jpg |
