Winter Damage to Volvo Penta 5.0GL Motor
I just found out today after pulling my boat out for the first time
this year that the engine block is cracked due to freezing over last winter. Dumb me. What I don't get is why the freeze plugs didn't blow. Check out: http://www.nelles.com/boat/crack.jpg. I'll be checking with a Volvo Penta dealership Monday but thought I'd pass this on to this group for comments. Can it be welded? Thanks in advance for any valueable input provided. |

Because the so called freeze plugs aren't really freeze plugs.

I don't know, you might be screwed. Repairing the damage on the outside is probably possible, but the block could also be cracked in the inside , through cylinders too. If you don't have any luck witht he dealer supplying a satisfactory answer,t hen you might also check with a reputable machine shop, for at least a second opinion. Good Luck! |
