VHF radio on a center console questions
I just purchased a Raymarine Ray54 radio for my Sea Fox 197CC, and am
trying to decide where to put it. I currently do not have a T-Top, but I plan to add in a year or so, and the radio would be placed there permanently. My console does not have a radio box, so my options are top mount (exposed to weather) or flush mount (requires a big hole). I don't want to flush mount it, because of the hole, but I am worried that exposure to weather would cause problems after awhile. Any suggestions? Should I put it inside my console for the time being in a box? |

Should I put it inside my console for the time being in a box? If it were me, and if I were going to put a t-top on the boat, I would just lay it on the console and not mount it at all. If you're in rough stuff, you might hold it in place with a bungee cord or some such, but I wouldn't drill *any* holes. Is this the boat? http://www.seafoxboats.com/centerconsole/197cc.html Nice boat. Damn if I'd want any extra holes after remounting the radio. Those things will take rain pretty well. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

Thats my boat alright - even the correct color, but the driver was not
included ;) Good idea. I should be able to rig up something. |

Another idea, one that I've used for mounting a beeper on my motorcycle, is to use a piece of velcro. The 'stick on' kind works great. "Goo Gone" will take off any traces of the glue from the tape once you're finished. Good luck! -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

Unless you can find a clamp mount, you will need holes for that, too. You will also need more cable for the T-top mount so you won't want to cut it short now. You might consider a decent handheld VHF for now and as a backup later. Dan |

There should be room under the console to put the extra wire in a nice little roll. I had enough room on a 15' Boston Whaler CC to do that. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |
