I read about that in the N & O.

Tragic Indeed. Makes me want to be more
carefull. I've been lucky. I know I've done some
stupid things out on the water alone.

I can't imagine what it took for the survivors
to swim ~4 miles in 4ft seas in that cold water.

Don,

How is Holden Beach?

Well,

It reminds me of Oak Island about 15 years ago.. I hate the boat ramp.
You can't get any good seafood in the offseason. Im not fond of the inlet.
Fortunately, It boasts The Prov. Co. II. So, we take the good with the bad.
I don't miss the Oak Is. traffic AT ALL.. But, I know its coming and right
soon.

Actually Im banking on it. We own some vacant lots there now. (Hurricane
proof :))

Sad to see the Oak Island of old go. My parents were at Prov. Co. last
weekend and
said the place was PACKED. They did mention the condo thingys going up..

I miss the LBP already. I made the decision to marry my wife on that pier
at about
3 in the morning many years ago. She was with me, I figured if she enjoyed
fishing
that much, she must be "allright".

Ate many fine dinners in Capt. Charlies/Mr. P's..I will miss that as well as
the Tiki Bar.

The wife and I are off to Freeport, Bahamas for a long weekend. Hope to get
some
clear water fishing in.

Hope you and family are well

db~The world has gone crazy

Long Beach Pier is now about razed by the more-money-than-sense crowd.
The Tiki Bar at Southport Marina is gone and (if true) Fish Tales has
moved to Ship's Chandler, yet under another name...

Mr P's Bistro, rebuilt and renamed will be razed in favor of condos
for use by the great unwashed. Ditto the space between Provision
Company (safe, for now) and the old ice house.

Oak Island, Southport, and environs are about to be taken by the
got-money crowd in lieu of the love-and-appreciate-the-ocean crowd.

Sad.

We were there the weekend before and I believe they opened that
weekend. One bit of good news, though, is that Paul was replacing the
cleats that had gone missing over time. Now, when you visit by water
you won't have to be incredibly creative in finding things to tie up
to....

It only took him how many years???

Cheap B*stard.. :) My hats off to him for staying put another year though.

Apparently Paul and another fellow (Dave) moved down here from
parts north, to find fame and fortune in NC. They're both musicians.

Turns out,

I have been close friends with Dave for 15 odd years now and had been
visiting Provision for almost as long. I happen to mention Provision to
Dave one eve. He said you mean the "Prov. Co." in Southport?
I say "yea". Then he clues me in on his long friendship w/ Paul.
and how they traveled down here together etc. etc. I think Paul
is a drummer.

Small world.

Dave and I have played in a few bands together over the years.
He did ok too... He recently wed a pretty woman who later recd.
a HUGE unexpected inheritance. He gets to sleep in now that
he's retired from Progress Energy.
