I have no clue how to return the system back to the Windoze slide viewer.

Windows? Yuck! Try Right clicking on the file you wish to change, then
Open with. Then Always use.

Yeah, but where's the Always Use thing?

Right click on "Open With"

Click on the bottom of the box where it says "Programs"

Choose the default program and check the box that says "Always use the
selected program to open this kind of file"

I got that far with the exception of Always Use.

Where is that?

It's a checkbox below the list of programs. Check it.
