The Brits are coming....the Brits are coming

First it was the lovely 'Sunita' from 'Coronation Street'. For the last
five years a star from that popular show has been invited to Halifax for
a get together with excited fans...

and now Sir Paul is the latest celebrity to come here to beat up on the
fishermen who harvest seals on our coasts.

He'll have to be careful though. A couple of years ago Martin Sheen did
the same thing and almost met his own Apocalypse on Quebec's Iles de la
Madeleine. An angry mob surrounded his hotel, and Sheen beat a hasty
retreat on his helicopter after police were called in to protect him.
English superstars don't carry the same weight in French Quebec.

Let's hope Sir Paul doesn't try to hand feed one of the cute helpless
harmless little harbour seals. He may find out the hard way why they
are called loup marins (sea wolves) in french. OTOH he hasn't produced
much music worth listening to in recent years so if he gets his hand bit
off it's no great loss to the world.

Maritime resources and ecology.

It's a sticky subject. We all share the same planet, but who has a
greater investment in decisions about the use of local maritime
resources than the people who live in a region?
Who will suffer the most from foolish waste or unwise management? To a
degree, it's important to respect local control and customs, but it
gets really confusing when the remaining resource for the entire world
is in one small location...

The seals kill off a lot of fish, so the humans kill the seals so the
humans can kill the fish instead... But to live, any animal must
consume other living things. Lots of complex issues here.

Darn glad to see the ecology of Britain in such good shape that Sir
Paul can now start on the rest of the planet.

Funniest line in the story: The 18-year old kid who asked "Paul
Who?..Sounds vaguely familiar..." Fame and stardom are *so* fleeting.

OH BOY - OH BOY!!!

Shobna Gulati is going to appear!!!!!

Who the hell is Shobna Gulati and what the hell is "Coronation
Street"?

And why should we care?

No wonder you're so grumpy all the time. Call up your cable station and
insist that they carry Coronation Street. It might do you good to get
away from all the shootin' & killin' on 'merican TV.
