The Committee of Foreign Investment is an inter-agency panel headed by the Treasury Dept. Perhaps, post 9/11, it's time to move it to a department tasked with national security, rather than finance. I'd also question why the local port authorities weren't consulted before reaching this decision. They know the ports best, and have to live and work in the area. I'm sure security weighs heavier on their minds than bureaucrats in Washington. There you go - if Jimmy Carter, one of the best Presidents the US has ever had, is ok with it - it's ok by me. Comparatively speaking, he is looking better and better. ;-) |
