Hey what can I say I'm fortunate enough to be able to fish daily, and when
you fish as much as I do, you try a lot of things

Suspend dots work well but there are other lures that suspend well right
out
of the box, X raps work well too, smithwick rogues are great for the money
right out of the package, but if your fishing shallow and want to use
jerkbaits, I would suggest my favorite, The yozuri twitchin minnow, or
just
go to soft jerkbaits like zoom super flukes or bass assassins. Remember to
experiment when retrieving stop and go short jerks and long jerks, I
rarely
"reel"hard jerkbaits, I use more of a sweeping action, reel up the line
then
sweep it again, most of the time they are hit on the pause. Good luck and
if
you don't want those lures let me know, I'll take em :-)

Just reading the list kind of proves a point. :)

Dumb name, good magazine.

I used to subscribe, but then they got weird.

Weird how? I stopped about 4 years back when (like all fishing mags) they
began recycling old ideas.

Exactly.

I think that any angler who's paying attention will eventually see that
there's a certain random nature to fishing success. You reach a point where
you just know what to try, or nothing works and you break out a good book
and a comfortable chair.

No offense intended - it's the nature of the disease.

I preach keep it simple, but I have four tackle boxes for fresh and
three for salt. :)

How fast can you tie a lure on, without gloves, in the middle of January,
outdoors?

Not very. I have arthritis remember?

Damn. I was giving you an opening to proclaim your greatness. I guess that
has to be spontaneous. :-)

Greatness is in the soul. Of course, being a superior human being -
well, modesty forbids exactly detailing the subtle nuances of my
exceptional abilities. However, modesty is also a hallmark of
greatness so I'll just leave it there.

Time to get more coffee.

Hell. 98% of the time I just use plastics, this year will be real
interesting as most of the plastics I will be fishing, will be home made,
probably won't be able to dunk any worms until Ice out, which will probably
be mid April or so, hopefully sooner, doesn't stop me from bringing 400lbs
of tackle..... because you never know do ya?

The funny thing is I always say "I'm just gonna bring a handful of plastics
and some hooks", but have yet to actually do it...because I know that's the
day they will want Poppers or spinnerbaits or something other than my
handful of plastic baits

6 Secs, without, 10 with gloves, that's from the time I pick up the lure
until it swings free on the line, but I cheat :-)

PS
A worm hook takes 4 secs, a lure takes a little longer, cause I can't
snell a lure

Letting the bait just sit there is a great tactic in cold water but as
the water temps increase increse the action on the bait, and as allways
VARY your retreive till you get a strike & then duplicate that
retreive.
