Does anyone recognize what boat is this - model, place of origin, anything?
If yes, you would help a lot! http://www.pixelpresent.com/brod/boat.jpg |

Lena,
I don't know, however if the experts in this NG would care to comment they could probably answer your question. Fredo "Lena" wrote in message ... Does anyone recognize what boat is this - model, place of origin, anything? If yes, you would help a lot! http://www.pixelpresent.com/brod/boat.jpg |

If yes, you would help a lot! http://www.pixelpresent.com/brod/boat.jpg The photo is poorly focused and of such low resolution that it's not possible to enlarge it and view enough details to get really definitive. Here's what you're probably looking at, IMO: 42-45' trawler. Late 70's or early to mid 80's. The foredeck originally suggests a larger boat, until one realizes the superstructure is short and set well aft. The gunwales and the bit of stern of which we can catch a glimpse, as well as the location of the superstructure suggest a deep draft semi-displacement hull with the remote possibility of a displacement hull remaining open pending additional views. The serious dinghy and the solar panel suggest the boat is used for coastal cruising. LIkely a single diesel (more common in that era) with a lot of tankage for extended range. The teak around the windows and the teak cabin door on the port side, as well as the general appearance of the vessel and the fact that it's a trawler, suggest an Asian origin. As a "Taiwan trawler" the exact same boat, with minor modifications, could have been sold under many different brand names. There are some resources such as the Powerboat Guide that have lots of photos of older boats, but nobody even scratches the surface of the wide variety of trawlers produced over the years. A handful of yards probably turned out 25 different "brands" of boats, and if you wanted to be a boat dealer in the 70's and 80's it was just a matter of showing up with some plans (or a plan to blatantly knock off somebody else's boat), and surprisingly little cash. If John Doe already had the US rights to distribute Brand X boats, the yard would make a couple of minor modifications to the Brand X design, call it Brand Y, and set you up in business as a competitor if you were willing to order a batch of boats. If it is indeed a Taiwan Trawler it could be: Ocean Alexander, CHB, DeFever, Marine Trader, Island Gypsy, etc, etc, etc, etc. A quick spin through my copy of the Powerboat Guide doesn't show an exact match for your mystery boat under the brands I thought to check out first- but I didn't take the time to check all 1500 pages and the PG doesn't show all the myriad variations of trawlers available. |
