Using Composite Lumber or Plastic Deck Material for Trailer Bunks

What do you guys think about replacing trailer bunks with one of the
composite wood or plastic decking materials -- Trex for example --
topped with Bunkaps? Seems like that kind of combo would last forever.
Any thoughts or suggestions about using fake wood for this application
? ? ?

Not a good design. The new trailers for river jetboats are using metal
bunks topped with UHMB plastic. The Trex as little stuctural strength. You
need to do 16" centers on a deck, as opposed to 24" with wood. Is very
flexible. Put it over a 2x6 and would probably be great, except for the
thickness.

I suppose if it were a great idea, we'd be seeing it done on lots of new
trailers.

It's a little more flexible than wood. So you would need to have more
supports or use a thicker piece.

I used it to replace rotten 3/4 ply stringers. I used the 1 1/4 deck boards
vertically. Worked pretty well and I know it won't rot.
