It will profoundly change your life forever, and certainly not for the better if your experience is llike that of most big-money lottery winners. (Assuming that $365m is a lot more money than you're used to dealing with and also recognizing that you didn't grow/evolve into the capacity to properly use and appreciate the true potential of such a sum by the normal process of earning it). As a true humanitarian, I can assure you that dealing with this windfall would be far more trouble to you than it is worth. It's my responsibility to you, as a fellow human being, to offer to take this burden off your hands. We could always partner up and go into the boat business.....that $365m would be back down to a sum we'd probably both be more familiar with in no time at all. :-) |

The last thing in the world you want to do is trade your retirement years for a new career of sleepless nights worrying about your investments. The lawyers and advisors aren't going to lose any sleep. Their worst case reaction is "oops, sorry about that" because you are just one of many that they earn their fees or commissions from. Contrary to some of the jokesters in rec.boats, I am not fabulously wealthy. I did get lucky and was able to convert many years of work into a reward that put financial worries in the back seat, for the most part. We put enough money aside in very conservative, long term savings type investments that will take care of our needs when we are too old to mess around. We also made some real estate investments that have already produced decent returns. We actively support some charitable organizations that have special meaning to us and take advantage of the tax write-offs. And last, but not least, we budgeted some fun money to enjoy during the last 15 or 20 years (hopefully) of our active and healthy time on this planet. Life is too short to spend it worrying about money. RCE |

I'm sure we would all love to have the problem of a couple hundred million dumped in our laps, but . . . The first thing most people do is quit their jobs. Then move to a very upscale community where they share little in common with their neighbors. End result, a life in turmoil with a lot of time on your hands. I'm sure you or I could handle these problems, but I'm not sure about this poor slob in Nebraska. ;-) |
