Probably true for conventional wood beam construction. I've seen some
interesting steel beam and skin construction recently that looks half
way affordable however. I was in one last week that was serving as a
wind surfer/kayak store (on topic), about 3,000 sq ft with 20+
ceilings. The owner said it came in at about $50/sq ft including the
slab and site prep.

Polr barns are pretty economical to build, also there is a market for old
barn wood, especially if is from old growth wood, you don't find much oak
12 x 12 anymore.

If you were serious, you could have posted your offer to one
of the Iraq War vet support web sites. As it happens, I know
a couple of Gulf & Iraq war vets in south Florida, but
they're not in Naples and they're doing well enough that an
quasi-offer of "free dental care" is not worth the drive.

As for the reason for tax deductions for the *interest* on
boat loans, it depends on your point of view. In one way, it
is an indirect subsidy for the banking industry. In another
way of looking at it, it's a fair way of stimulating the
economy by encouraging people to buy things.

years. There are several criteria, among them that the boat
has to have a potty & a galley, and you have to sleep on
board for a certain number of nights per year.
