Merck to cut 7,000 jobs

GM to cut 30,000 jobs

Ford to cut 4000 jobs

Casual Corner is closing 525 stores.

Interstate Bakeries has already shed 4000 jobs and is looking at dropping
another 450.

These are real jobs, not the McBush jobs Presidummy touts.

What is your definition of a real job? Is working as a clerk at Casual
Corner a *real* job Harry, or is a *real* job sweeping the floor at a GM
plant and earning $60,000/year for doing so?

Harry lives in a fantasy world where stagnation is the status quo, per
person productivity is never increased, automation never happens, eating
habits never change.

"narcissistic adults have had decades of not being in synch with the times
or with other people, so that by now they are really out of it. Sometimes it
just seems like they have a highly selective memory -- which, of course,
they do, sort of; they pay attention only to what has their name in it in
the first place, so after 30 or 40 years"

That must be the entry-level folks. Hell, their benefit package alone
equates to $35+/hour. No wonder GM is going broke.

The best thing we can do as Americans is buy cars (domestic or foreign) made
in non-union plants right here in the US (like Toyota's Princeton, IN
plant).

I predict that in the next 5 to 10 years, GM will start opening new plants
again in the US...but with the insistance that the new plants are non-union.

A real job is a job that pays enought to enable an adult with a family to
earn enough in terms of wages and fringes to support that family with
decent food, shelter, clothing and health care.

So is working as a clerk at Casual Corner a real job Harry?

As long as they are paying union dues it is a real job in Harry's mind.

My world is a tad more complicated than your simple mind, Bertbrain.

So is working fulltime at a retail job as a clerk a *real* job Harry?

If it pays enough for an adult to support himself/herself and family, and
provides health benefits, et cetera, then it is a real job. If not, it is
a McJob. It is still real work, of course, but it is exploitive of
whomever holds it.

Real jobs pay real wages and provide real fringe benefits.

Fair enough.

So does Casual Corner pay more/hour with more benefits for a clerk then
say........Wal-Mart?

I'm thinking of putting up 500 automated posts an hour, just to give your
statistical analysis more meat to put in your sock.

Here's a cookie, no post a response.

I don't know what Casual Corner pays. Does CC also force its workers to
work off the clock?

You should know those answers if you are mourning the loss of 525 Casual
Corner stores.

Eh?
