Lake Travis radio check

Do you know if any one on Lake Travis, TX will happily give a radio
check on newly installed marine radios? Which channel? Any way to
check radio other than contacting others? Will a SWR meter for CB
radios be of any benifit? Bunch of questions, answers to any will be
appreciated.

Nominally, radio check on Marine radios are done on Channel
9. If you have a buddy with a radio, arrange a channel and yak
at each other.

Yes - use a SWR meter.

No - about a 100 MHz too low. :)

You can buy VHF SWR meters fairly cheaply, but it's a use
once kind of thing if you are only checking if the radio works.
If you want to do some serious antenna work, then Field
Strength, SWR and a host of other devices are handy. ;)

If you installed the radio/antenna combination properly, then
use Channel 9 or a friend - it's cheaper.

Later,

Tom
