Test vehicles from the Big 3 are routinely crushed at metal recycling yards in Detroit and Toledo, with absolutely nothing taken out other than the gas tank and engine fluids. These cars look brand new and may include custom aluminum wheels and top end electronics including stereo and gps. I would not have believed it if I did not see it with my own eyes. |

A lot of it has to do with insurance and liability. |

About 15% of its value in PST and GST :) I say we start confiscating the autos of the snowbirds and instead of crushing them we will sell them at auction like the good capitalists we are. Why destroy a peice of property that has value? |

I can't imagine our vehicles being much different than those sold in Maine, Minnesota, or other northern states. corrosion protection, heaters, defrosters etc. What about your speedometers..... are they in metric? see: http://foia.state.gov/MMS/postrpt/pr...asp?CntryID=29 scroll way down to Transportation...Automobiles |

Why destroy a peice of property that has value? You have to wonder what it would take to bring US vehicles up to Canadian standards. It can't be so much that a $95K vehicle must be destroyed. This foolishness doesn't seem to apply to older vehicles. We always hear about people who buy a 'Southern' car (no rust)and bring them across the border. It's considered an advantage on the re-sale. |
What a waste.
It may be a canadian thing. :-) My business partner one time had to
"surrender to the crown" a liter of Crown Royal. He had stopped at the duty free store and bought a bottle for his father-in law. He made the mistake of saying he was bringing in a bottle for his FIL instaead of saying it was for himself........"surrendering it to the crown" was pouring it into a urinal. In the states, it would most likely have been seized and auctioned off. "Shortwave Sportfishing" wrote in message ...
