A local dealer has a 1986 17' Montauk with a 90 hp motor. They are
asking $5500. If the boat checks out, would this be a faiir price? Seems a bit high to me for a boat that old. Any suggestoins on a fair price? |

Any suggestoins on a fair price? Make certain it weighs what you expect. If the foam core is holding water Whalers can weigh 3 or 4 times their expected dry weight. Great resource for Whaler info: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/ Go into the forums section and you'll have access to scads of info. jps |

Some older Whalers are waterlogged and there's no way to tell unless you drill out a core sample or weigh the boat. A local harbormaster boat had this problem (boat wasn't that old, either). Every season it got slower and slower and the engine was incorrectly blamed until they realized it didn't handle like it used to. Eisboch |
