It turns out that rec.boats.marketplace is a so called moderated
newsgroup. At one time it was monitored by a real moderator, but it
now runs on autopilot with a script that checks the basic format of
the "subject" line of your post. If you format your subject line to
look more or less like all of the others, your post should appear
within a reasonable length of time. That said, there's always the
possibility that the auto moderator is broken at the moment. I'll try
to repost my Bertram 33 for sale ad and see what happens.

Replying to my own post :-) , it looks like everything is working
OK. My FS post just went up in about 5 minutes. The secret is in the
format of the header. It must look something like this:

FS: Bertram 33 Flybridge Sport Fisherman in NY/NJ/CT

You could probably shorten this up to:

FS: Bertram in NY

and it would still post. The script looks for "FS: ",
followed by a description, followed by the keyword "in",
followed by a location.
