Rogue Waves....

I remember a debate a while back about wave height.

This should add some fuel to the fire. :)

Scientists have been looking at rogue waves for years. Even relatively
simple analysis tells us that out of every 1,000 waves averaging X
height, there will be a certain number of 2X high waves and maybe one or
two 3X. You can see this on a choppy day out on river or bay. Old sea
lore says that every seventh wave is either exceptionally large &
violent or much smaller & calmer than average... the small ones are the
ones to look for when maneuvering in seas.

The real problem with rogue waves is not their size but that they often
seem to have different dynamics... steeper, moving faster, more
violently breaking crest, etc etc. I'm not sure how to explain this but
then I'm not a scientist ;)
