WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House began clearing the way for U.S.
arms sales to Iraq's interim government on Wednesday with a presidential
directive that officials said moved Baghdad toward official status as a
friendly government.

Deja vu, all over again...

Lovely....they put a loose cannon in charge, one that is ALREADY
starting to act like Saddam, then arm him. Jeez, that kinda reminds me
of the picture of Rummy glad-handing Saddam....

We have not seemed to have learned any lessons about the dangers of
arming Arabs.

My crystal ball is showing me something from the future.....I see it:

NOYB, John H., John Smith, Dave Hall. The year is 2014. Connected to the
central brain, they will all say "Hey...that policy....arming the new
guy...it's got nothing to do with the mess we're in today".

So what would you suggest? We not assist the new government in Iraq to
restore order, and just let the insurgents continue to proliferate
anarchy?

Small arms only, and perhaps a few heavy vehicles. No more shoulder fired
anti-aircraft missiles, no high-tech anything. Period.

That's fair for the time being. At least until we can be reasonably
sure that the arms we provide, will not be used against us a few weeks
later.

With the exception of Israel, tell me about a Middle Eastern country where
we have NOT regretted providing arms because they were used against us.
