Anyone know anything about the CHB 33? Yes, mean the 33 footer, not the
34 "aft-cabin" version.

If it's not an aft cabin,
most likely its one of the 32' sedans?

Chung Hwa Boat and Chien Hwa Boat
both built "CHB" trawlers for any number of US importers. I recently came
across a list somebody had comiled of 15 or 20 common trade names that these
boats were sold under in the US.
The two companies were kissin cousins,
(or closer), and one name means North Boat Yard and the other name means South
Boat Yard in whatever Chinese dialect they speak on Taiwan.

Just as the US importers were free to call the boats CHB's, Puget Trawlers,
Universals, Island Gypsies, etc etc etc etc etc, there is no reason that some
importer couldn't have arbitrarily renamed the boat commonly sold as a
32-footer a "33". There's nothing more arbitrary than the "nominal" length of a
pleasure craft, with actual LOA often falling 10% one side or the other of the
model designation.

There was a time when the dealer for one boat out of the CHB yard could tell
you about 150 different ways that boat was superior to absolutely indentical
boats being sold under a different trade name on the other side of the lake.

Not to say that all boats out of these two yards were absolutely identical.
Workmanship would be about the same, of course, but there *could* be different
laminate schedules, fittings, and other differences in materials between one
trademark and another.

(Some of the boats originally sold under now defunct trademarks are making the
circuit as "CHB").

Thanks, Chuck. I found a lot of info about the marque in general,
including the stuff you posted but have been unable to find anything
about them other than the commonly seen (at least around Seattle) aft
cabin version.

Have been kicking around the idea of picking up one as a project boat
and have found one registered as a 33 but have found only one other
listed with any broker anywhere and that one is one of the slightly
different versions as you described.

Am just trying to determine "comparables" on the boat.

Albin made a 33. Looks exactly like a CHB, except it's completely
different (narrower, shorter, lower). Albins were possibly one of the
better Taiwan trawlers. The Albin has a sort of clipper style bow.

Maybe some of these were sold as CHBs?

33, 34.......come see, come saw on an old trawler.

Late 70's vintage?

In very broad generalities...........
Should be able to get a very nice one for $50-60k in the Pac NW. (After a bit
of spirited dickering, of course). Maybe $70k for something house kept and
bristol. Project boats substantially less, some salvageable boats well down
into the 30's these days.

Typical isms: stringers, decks, window leaks, wiring, black iron fuel tanks,
delam (on superstruture more often than hull).

But old boats are like young women. High maintenance, and you will be very
surprised the minute you think they are predictable. :-)

Not on the CHB's. There is a huge difference in style between the 33 and
the 34 and the boat's appeal to different type of buyer. They are hardly
even recognizable as from the same family. That is why I specifically
said 33 even though the 33 is 33'6" and the 34 is 33'6" as well.

Am well aware of the pitfalls and areas of interest. Am trying to find
out sales history of the 33 and any peculiarities of the model.
