For my '97, it's right at 160F. For replacement parts, go he

You'll need the serial number of the engine. Then you'll know for sure you're
getting the right part.

For my 92 it's about 160 for raw water cooled with water temps in the mid
80's. For freshwater cooled (heat exchanger) at cruise speeds (3k rpm
28mph) 180 and above 4k RPM (40mph) it's 200+

If boating sal****er, the temp is normally 160. But fresh water, you could
raise the temp to 190 and get better performance / milage. The 160 stops
precipitation of salt on to the engine cooling passages. Go to a decent
auto parts house and ask for a 160 or 190 thermostat for a 5.7L Chevy. Or
take the old one with you.

Actually the 143 (or 140) degree thermostat is the salt water version AFAIK.
The 160 came later for fresh water use. Not sure if retro back to '94 for
me, as they still list the 143.

I'd go with the 140 for salt and a 160 for fresh. Anything higher is too
close to overheating in a low pressure cooling system. If it's a closed
system, that's different. You can run a 190 no problem in a closed system.
