Justification for a boat
Ahhh!!! Today was one of those very few days where the cost of my boat in the very short season I get here in Rhode Islund(sic) that makes it all worth while. It was 82deg F with a reasonible wind and very low seas. Which in and of it self is a great day. And for the first time in 21 years, a couple of America's Cup Class Sailboats were racing for "blood", err "real", in their spiritual home, Newport, RI, USA. Alighni and Oracle/BMW had the sails up and bets down ($1 to JimmyB). Alighni spent two beats demonstrating why they own the Cup, but on the 2nd Run, Oracle said "I am LARRY and you will be my wench" thanks to an American windshift. The windshift wasn't enough, and the Swiss were too swift, and won the race. Being part of the spectator fleet was AWESOME! Watching those two boats toss down was even better. After seeing the ACC boats on TV in '04 and in person in '00, I never realized the speed those boats have. They are fscking FAST. and FAST! both up and downwind. The TV coverage does not do those boats justice. And even being on a stationary boat in Auckland in 2000 didn't give me any respect for their speed. Today, I got learned about how fast they are. And son, they ARE FASTER THAN FAST! God, it was a great boating day on Narragansett Bay. I'm doing it again tomorrow for the ACC race and twice next Saturday for their last race on 'gansett Bay in Newport! Damn! it was a great day!!! Do it forever! and Ever! SharkPaws |
Justification for a boat
I enjoyed meeting the America's Cup sailors at the America's Cup Hall of Fame
induction ceremonies held at the Rosecliff Mansion in Newport. Surprisingly, Russell Coutts, who was supposed to present the award to his teammate Bard Butterworth was a "no show." Now I hear that Russell Coutts will be leaving Team Alinghi for another team. I will be playing an interview I did with Brad Butterworth in the next couple of weeks. I hope you can listen. "Listen to the live broadcast of 'Nautical Talk Radio' with Captain Lou every Sunday afternoon from 4 - 5 (Eastern Standard Time) on the web at www.959watd.com or if you are in Boston or Cape Cod set your radio dial to 95.9FM. |
Justification for a boat
Is no justification. Ask your wife after the next haul out!
