Anyone know anything about what ever became of Lucraft Boats in Daytona
Beach? I just got a little 17' recently, great little boat, but I'd like to
be able to replace the Lucraft emblems on the side. I'm beginning to think
I'm SOL.

Thanks,

John

Out of curiousity, I went to the USCG's MIC database and yes,
Lucraft is gone, but I didn't see when they went out. The MIC
of LBL is now assigned to Lear Baylor Boats. Perhaps the out
of business date of '81 applies to the Lucraft. Hopefully someone
here may know the MIC dtabase details better. You can see what
info is there at:
http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/m...il.aspx?id=LBL

Thanks for the info, Jim. I had already taken a look at the MIC database
and called Lear Baylor in California and talked to the owner. I was
thinking maybe the reassignment was due to consolodation or a purchase of
Lucraft, but no such luck. Oh well!

John,

Judging by the posts here as well as my own quest for info on an
old fiberglass boat of mine, I think it's natural to find out
what you can about your own boat. I had never heard of Lucraft,
but that isn't saying much. I tried finding out about an old '76
era Tom-Boy fiberglass tri-hull boat that I got a few years ago
and could not find anything anywhere on the net. When I had to
replace the floor/deck on the boat and saw that instead of using
a flotation foam, they used oasis, which is designed to hold water!
Seems they didn't know a lot about boat building. :^) But, the
boat has held up over the years. However, judging by current
condition of stringers that I can't readily get to, I estimated I
would only get another few years out of it the last time I
looked. Good news is that I just picked up an aluminum Bass
Tracker. :^) I may not even use that old fiberglass boat when
I'm done with this one. I'm in the process of replacing plywood,
glassing over it and recarpeting the boat. Boat hasn't been run
in a few years, but I'm confident I can get it going again. :^)

I know there are companies reproducing manuals for old outboards,
but I think that if someone started reproducing owners manuals for
the boats themselves, they wopuld probably do pretty well.

Hey Jim,

Sounds like the tracker will be a nice little project. I agree with you on
the idea of reproducing boat manuals being a good little enterprise, but God
love the poor fool who'd have to chase all this stuff down!
