Sure. Put a Y-shaped foot on each A-frame member, rounded to fit the
contour of the gun'l & pad w carpet, and brace it between the fwd
chainplate & lifeline stanchion.

And, as long as I have you here, what the hell is this curly thingie
whatchacallit on the boom? This is there is attaches to the mast.

That's a reefing hook. Are there grommets further up along the forward
edge of the sail, with corresponding grommets along the back edge?
That's for securing the lower area sail down in heavy winds. The forward
grommet or reef point goes on the hook, saves time over shackling it.

Any idea what this block at the top of the mast is for?

That's on the aft side, right? I'd guess it's for a topping lift. It may
be there for raising the mast, or securing it when trailering.

Funny you should mention odd bits of rigging - I keep finding more and
more "stuff" as I get into this.

Hopefully, I'll get the rigging set up by the end of the week in a
test run, then maybe sail the boat next week for a couple of days.

If you launch at a marina that has any commercial boats, there should be a
hoist there. For loading stuff onto the boat, not for hauling the boat.
Just use that to step the mast.

In my case "expertise" is just the sticky residue of 4 decades (plus a
little change) monkeying around with sailboats when I could have been
doing something productive.
