What's with the mayor of NO??

Just watching CNN. The mayor was addressing reporters and said he wants
200K people to move back and re-populate the city. (with possible visit
from Rita). The federal people say power is still sporadic and the
water is undrinkable.
Are these guys talking to each other?

Apparently not. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to go back to a city
without electricity, potable water, and a working emergency system, but
I have choices, and perhaps many New Orleans folks do not.

We got a nice phone call from the two Mississippi union families living
in our rental house in NE Florida. Both of the guys got work from the
union business agent and worked a full week last week, and the local
business agent is making sure deductions are taken from their pay for
their pension and welfare payments to their local union. That means
their family health care stays intact. Their kids are in the local
schools. I think they're driving back to their home areas this weekend
with a U-haul to see what can be salvaged. According to their wives,
there are at least a dozen families they know from the Gulfport-Biloxi
area who are at least temporarily in NE Florida.

Oh...a benefit to me...the inside of my rental needed painting. Well,
it's going to get painted now, and I suspect any other work that it
needs will be done.

There's a 'good news' story you won't hear from JohnH. A real win win
situation.

The mayor of N.O. is a well-known idiot.

The best thing that could happen is for another hurricane to hit the place,
re-emphasizing the fact that it is not a natural place for people to live.

(before they sink billions in to the hole again).

Why does the Federal Government have to knock sense into the Mayor? A city
without power, no drinking water and parts still sitting under polluted
water........add to that another hurricane coming their way. Only a fool
would tell the people to come back.

The Mayor is indeed an idiot.

You have to wonder how many of the displaced people, will not go back to
New Orleans. I would suspect that New Orleans will lose 20-30% of it's
population. That might be on that nitwit Nagins mind. The longer they
stay away, the less chance there is that they will go back.

Don,
When you saw the floods in NO, and the people stranded there, it was the
Mayor's fault.

Thaat has been discussed quite a bit in the news..........the majority of
people that have left the state are in the democrat
demographics.................the senate seats and govenor could be the first
to be affected, as well as a possible change in congressional districts.

I don't know about that. I was watching brother Jeb laying out evacuation

losing his train of thought.

I've noticed, over the past three winter snowbirding adventures, that he is
very popular in Florida.

He's beyond "very popular". When the Dems thought that they had a shot at
unseating him in 2002, they sent the big guns (Clinton, Gore, Janet Reno,
and numerous celebrities) down here to support Bill McBride. Just a few
days before the election, the Democrat-leaning pollsters like Zogby had the
race as a toss-up. Jeb won by 13 points just a few days later.

As an added bonus, he's one of the original signatories of PNAC's 1997
Statement of Principles:
http://www.newamericancentury.org/st...principles.htm

He may not run in '08, but there's almost no doubt in my mind that he'll be
President one day.

Did you happen to catch the interview with the Army Corps of Engineers

A question was posed about the potential of Rita hitting NO and if the
damaged levies could withstand another CAT 3 storm. He said no, but, in the
event Rita hits, they planned to seal off the affected canals at both ends,
so no water could spill into and flood the city.

WTF is he talking about? And, if that works, why didn't they do that before
Katrina?

Because they wanted to let the levees breach in the black areas in order to

Before Katrina the mayor owned the town. According to Louis Faraquan, the levee
was bombed so as to kill blacks. That's more evidence that the mayor was
practicing genocide in NO.

This morning Nagin is accusing Adm. Allen of overstepping his bounds by
disagreeing publicly with Nagin's decision to quickly repopulate NO. One wonders
where all this apparent 'leadership' was *before* Katrina hit.
