Identifying types of wood
 

I have a 26' Penn Yan Tunnel hull and I am refinishing the exterior wood, handrails, swim platform, exposed top, etc. It is either teak or Mogohany but I don't know how to tell which it is. Any suggestions? I was going to assume it is teak and use a teak restore. If it becomes appaernt that is not working I was going to sand it and refinish it as if it was Mahogony.

IMHO: Teak is very Hard and Mahogany is relatively soft and easy to work.

Teak will exhibit signs of what appears to be black wood rot but
isn't.

Mahogany will just bleach out like oak.

I have literature that allows me to tell what wood I am dealing with. A
trip to the bookstore is in order. Might cost you $25 but it will boost
your credibility!!!:-)
