Mercury 650 water pump?

Hi all, first timer here,
I just bought a Glastron with a Mercury 650 (65hp) outboard.
This combo had sat for a couple years so I knew enough to
replace the water pump impeller before I did anything else.
So I changed the impeller and all the seals etc., put it
back together and hooked up my flush unit to the garden hose
and fired up the motor. Anyway, my question is where should
the water be exiting the motor when it is running?
It is coming out the hub and a couple rows of smaller holes
along either side of the cavitation plate. I guess I
assumed it would be coming out the ports high on the unit
just under the powerhead. I am wondering if I have the
vanes on the impeller facing the wrong way or if this all
sounds right to you all.
I would appreciate any info you could offer.
Thanks,
Tony

Mercury 650 water pump?

I'm not familiar with that particular model but I do know you can't really
install an impeller "backwards". It's going to turn the way it is supposed
to. The vanes will fold back into the correct direction even if you had put
it in with them folded the wrong way.

Mercury 650 water pump?

The edges should be trailing when the shaft is turned clockwise. Does water
come out the "pee hole"? If so you're fine. Odds are the vanes would flip
the right way anyhow.
