Why would anybody want a "lifelong job". If thats all you aspire to, I
cant afford to hire you. As an employeer, nobody guarantees me a
lifelong job (I dont want one either). I pay well, but if you find
something you like better, and do not take it, you lose a lot in my
eyes even if it is about money. I encourage my people (except the
older ones) to be looking for some work they can do on their own so
that if things fall apart here they will have work. The ones that do
not take that opportunity drive me nuts.
Wal Mart seems ok for totally unskilled people.

Well, perhaps you couldn't afford to hire me.
I started in the sales department 42 years ago and worked my way up to be
the president of the company. Not too bad for a "Lifelong job". My
daughter started working with the second largest bank in Canada and now
after 14 years, she is a vice-president. She wants to be president.
She
most likely will be some day. You probably couldn't afford to hire her
either.

You worked at the same company for 42 years. You did not hold the same job
for those 42 years. There is a big difference!

The UFCW's website concludes, "Every person working hard for a living
earns
the right to a decent wage, affordable health care and a voice on the job.
But Wal-Mart's greed provides other companies a license to chip away at
the
rights of working America, influencing everything from wages to working
conditions."

I love the last paragraph, but they should have added a phrase:

"Every person working hard for a living earns
the right to a decent wage, affordable health care and a voice on the job.

*unless they work for us!"

The funniest thing is that one of the guys hired to walk the line worked for
Wal-Mart and he said it was a good job and that he would work for Wal-Mart
again.

Many right-wingers like Wal-Mart

I don't!
because it helps create and perpetuate
a huge pool of exploitable workers.
Wal-Mart...helping America claw its way to the bottom.

Screw Walmart!

Exactly.

(BTW......not to put anybody down, but a title of "Vice President" at a
bank is sort of meaningless.......We recently completed a 250k s.f office
building for a subsidary of an international bank....there were over 100
"vice presidents' offices")

You just did "put anybody down". You said that the title of "Vice
President" at a bank is sort of meaningless! I can't believe you are that
uninformed and uneducated. Well, maybe you are!

I am quite educated and quite informed............having several bank
clients for years. While being named a vice president of a bank is a step
up, it is not the same as being named a VP of most other corporations (like
a General Motors for example)
Hell, even the VP's joke about being a VP.

So, you just take a handful of "stupid pills" before you start drooling in

George W. Bush, our hero!

We're fighting terrorists in Iraq so we don't have to worry about
hurricane victims here at home.

Which ones do you use?

Well Fritz, I think that you are in need of an advanced education if you
think that being a VP of a CANADIAN bank is anything like what you have in
the USA. They are not the same and the positions are not the same.
Canadian Banks are run nationally and not like your regional banks. My
daughter's division, at the bank, has over 14,000 employees reporting to
her. Being a V. P. here is no joke!

If you are not a vice president at a bank after working there for more than
two years and possessing a college degree then you should look for another
job.

The banks in the US of A went national quite a few years ago. You really
should read international new sources, not just your local Canadian ones.
