1997 5.7GL Volvo Penta Overheating

I have a 97 Volvo/Penta 5.7GL, with an SX Cobra Drive. I am looking
for the instructions or diagram to replace the impeller. At idle and
low speeds temp remains at about 140 -160 but once we run it the temp
spikes and returns to normal once we idle it again. I have noticed
that while on the hose with the flush ears not much water is
exhuasting thru the prop????

I believe most volvos have a raw water pump mounted on the front of the
engine. Driven by a fan belt. Generally that type of pump has a plate on
the back that you take off to replace the impeller. You may have to remove
the pump from the engine to get at the plate.

Make sure that you remove the thermostat housing and the thermostat from
its housing as well and check for and remove as necessary pieces of the
impeller that may have broken off and worked their way up there. I was
advised to do that by a knowledgable parts salesman who sold me an impeller
and its a good thing, because he was right. Lots of impeller pieces were
up there and would have eventually worked their way into the water jackets
of the engine.
