Who was in charge? The Bush Administration

However, as in all such events, evacuation is left primarily to the
local authorities. Thinking about this for more than 5 seconds will
show why. The locals know where the school busses to be used for evac
are parked, the feds do not. In spite of the mandatory evac ordert
from the mayor, he never used his own authority as head of the evac
effort under his own hurricane plan to use such busses. Even a half
assed evac would have saved many lives.

Playing eh blame game for Katrina never occurred to me until I saw
people Like Krause do so but I will not allow such crap. The Dems know
they are really exposed here as it was their officials who had the
primary authority to do things but didnt. Furhtermore, just like all
municipalities, contracts are awarded on the basis of political
patronage but in this case the Dems controlled the awarding og local
levee contracts. When people find that their loved ones died for
political patronage, democratic heads will roll.
Bush saved lived by begging the incompetent governor and mayor to issue
a mandatory evac order. Bush is the hero here whereas people will find
the democratic mayor and governor to be culpable in mass murder.
It is too late for Dems to ask for us not to play the blame game, they
started it and now they will lose big time.

True, and it was handled badly.

Worse, instructions were given to the public to seek shelter at places
where there was no provision for them to stay.

And in your opinion, that excuses President Bush for staying on vacation
for two days... doing nothing... while this disaster unfolded? And it
excuses his cabinet for sitting on their thumbs for over 5 days (still
sitting, in some cases)?

My what a lovely set of blinders you have on.

.. Bush is the hero

Yeah, being on vacation really saved the day. He set a tremendous
example of leadership afterwards, too, calling for looters to be shot
dead on sight and not getting anything in motion, then saying "Nobody
knew the levees would be a problem."

All he needs to do is wear a fighter pilot suit and say "Bring it on!"
and the whole country would be perfect, right?

Well, Bush standing on the levee like King Canute ordering the water to
stay out might work in the liberaluniverse but in ours it wouldnt.
Your faith in Bush's powers is sorta misplaced.
