Pulling cattle pull...

A few pictures from the cattle pull. These aren't oxen, they are
cattle - mostly steers.

The single most dangerous job of a pulling contest is this part -
kicked, stepped on, pooped on - you name it.

The hook is set and we're almost ready. Notice that the steers have
their hips up and ready. The drover has to keep them like that before
he begins the pull.

Notice the hook man is clear and the steers are still in the ready
position waiting for the command to go.

Here the hips have dropped and the pull begins.

This is absolutely fascinating to watch. The steers are different
from the oxen which are different from the horses which are different
from the ponies, etc.

Here is a picture of an unruly pair - the steer on the right just
wasn't having a good day. The girl is a high school student and has
been handling these beasts since she was 10 (former student of my
wife's) if you can believe it.

She was chewing the steer, whose name was Danny, a new one for
screwing up the three pulls. And when all was said and done, grins
and a head scratch for her friend.

Nice pics with amazing clarity.

I looked at a bull semen farm a few years back. The bulls were spectacular
specimens and huge (overall size). They were all blue ribbon grade.

They collected semen with a fabricated cows end........complete with a
person inside to massage it and collect the semen after the bull mounted it
and did it's business.

A bull has one purpose in life..........to screw. What a life. ;-)
