Anyone have any info on building rafts? I am considering a trip to
South America and plan on building a raft and floating down the Amazon

Hi-tech , lo-tech ?

flotation, deck, crossbracing to keep square.

Consider rudder or fins (daggerboard ?) to provide some directional
stability and control.

closed cell foam will keep you afloat even if you puncture a hull.
