I took the Ranger out for a quick run this morning up at Webster Lake prior to next weeks charity bass tournament and I stopped at Cumberland Farms to get some gas - I was down to half a tank and I don't like to get much lower than that. As I was filling up my boat, some soccer mom in her, I swear to you, Excursion pulled in and started telling me that she thought I was being totally selfish in filling up the Ranger in this time of gasoline shortage as she started filling her vehicle. I ignored her, but as I was paying at the counter, she was at the next register to me with paying a $140 bill chatting with the counter girl that she needed to get to her summer house on the Cape because all her relatives were going to be there for the weekend. I was especially amused as there was a left over Kerry/Edwards and Sullivan sticker on the bumper of her Excursion. True story. Just another typical liebral.....whining about others doing what they are guilty of :-) |

My best friends are a soccer mom (actually little league) family of four with both cars being Yukons. Oh, and they are hard core republicans. I love your story cause it hits close to home. Should I go boating this weekend or stay home? What will people be thinking about me while I fill up my truck and boat for the weekend. Should I buy a couple of gas cans and fill 'em up? What will people think? |

Then you hit me with the last line! Thanks for the laugh (and no worries, I'm doing what I think I should do, not what others think I should do). What about SWMBO? Not in my vocabulary. SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed Oh, I know her! Of course you do - we all do. The result of not obeying is just too horrible to contemplate. Just to stay on topic: unfathomably terrifying. |

You've got it now. You'll never, ever be without SWMBO (swim' bo) in your vocabulary again. And don't let SWMBO know what 'SWMBO' means! -- John H "All decisions are the result of binary thinking." |

My best friends are a soccer mom (actually little league) family of four with both cars being Yukons. There's a difference between having kids who play sports, and buying what everyone else has because you're a dumb twit who can't make an intelligent buying decision. Well, the Yukons have nothing to do with sports and I'm not sure what their argument for buying them was. I guess they just wanted them. Bingo! They must be one of the crowd that says "We have a god-given right to own anything we want, no matter what effect its use has on society at large". You may be giving too much credit where it's not due at all. I don't think the idea of anything other than "Ooh, cool car, I want one." was involved. Hey....I'd love a string trimmer with a tilting head to do driveway edging. But, there are already too damned many noisy little motors around my neighborhood, most of them serving no purpose at all. A healthy 30 year old couple using a leaf blower for 3 hours to clean up under a *MINIATURE* Japanese red maple that's barely larger than the plastic bag they're putting its leaves in. Give me a friggin' break. Bend over and pick up the leaves. Pass the ammo! |

My son and I can fill about 20 leaf bags per hour, using a rake, and a plastic trash can with the bottom punctured so the bag doesn't get stuck from the vacuum inside. It's a real stitch to watch the neighbors with their leaf blowers, chasing 3 leaves all day. We don't mind, though. They're all going deaf, which means we can practice our guitars with impunity. :-) |
