Delaware Water Gap

We are planning a 3 day long canoe trip to the Delaware Water Gap on
the weekend of 9-12 Sept (one weekend after the Labor Day). We are
concerned that the area might be too crowded and the campsites all
full. Does anyone know how true our fears are?

Usage does go down dramatically after Labor Day, and of course the NPS
fees disappear also. --Mostly it will depend on what kind of camping your
plan on doing. The commercial ones, such as Kittatinny Canoes, will still
have hefty usage on weekends. Some, such as Dingmans, should be a little
lighter. The primitive campgrounds are probably available. Worthington SF
will be open and usable.
I don't have the URL to hand, but begin with www.nps.gov and find your
way to the Delaware River W&S (Delaware Water Gap section) or however they
have it. Look at the closures section if you haven't already. The April
floods did terrible damage to that stretch and some of it is still
recovering. Some campsites are gone or permanently closed. You should
check ahead of time. Calling their headquarters wouldn't be a bad idea...

Thank you very much, Joe.
We will do as you suggest.
