Gasoline Theft: Coming to a Marina Near You?
"Harry Krause" wrote in message ... CNN had a number of reports today about gasoline theft from camper parking lots, pre-school parking lots, et cetera. Think we'll have cases of fuel siphoning from boats at marinas? I do. Removing fuel (and tires, engine, battery) from RVs is OK with me. :-) |

Think we'll have cases of fuel siphoning from boats at marinas? I do. Too bad they're typically different sizes, or a sure cure for the fuel thieves would be to swap the cap labeled "fuel" on the fuel filler with the cap labeled "waste" on the deck fitting for holding tank pump out. One big suck on the plastic hose to get the suction going and the resulting "mouthful" would cure most fuel thieves on the very first attempt. (You would want to swap them back before somebody not familiar with the boat ever attempted to fuel it for you). In reality, I think it might be pretty east to siphon gas or diesel from a boat on a trailer, but wouldn't you need a pump if the boat is in the water? Most fuel tanks are at least partially below the waterline, and I think that while a siphon hose can run uphill for a distance- doesn't it have to terminate at a point lower than the material being siphoned. |

IF I remember correctly you can't even siphon from car fuel tanks any more
as they has screens in them. Has anyone even tried this recently??? Not sure about boats.. "Harry Krause" wrote in message ... I know quite a few Japanese cars have these springs, but most American cars dont. I helped out on a fuel pump change in a friends 2004 Caviler, and siphoned the fuel out with a full size garden hose. "Harry Krause" wrote in message ... CNN had a number of reports today about gasoline theft from camper parking lots, pre-school parking lots, et cetera. Think we'll have cases of fuel siphoning from boats at marinas? No. I do. That's because you're an idiot. 99% of boats fuel tanks are below the water line, making it impossible to siphon. Of course, I would only expect somebody familiar with boats to know that... -- -Netsock "It's just about going fast...that's all..." http://home.columbus.rr.com/ckg/ |

"Red Cloud©" wrote in message ... Yeah, and nobody has yet developed any sort of manual or 12v DC powered pump, so pumping gas out of boats would be absolutely impossible, too!!! Wrong. Those pumps do exist. Along with manual hand-crank pumps too. What was that about being familiar with boats, Wetsock? Perhaps you should read a bit slower...the method being discussed is "siphoning", not pumping. And I have probably forgotten what you will ever know about boats. Bwhahahahahahahahaha! Back at cha, my English challenged friend. :) -- -Netsock "It's just about going fast...that's all..." http://home.columbus.rr.com/ckg/ |

Harry,
Are you thinking about going over to get some free gas, or boat parts? "Harry Krause" wrote in message ... "Red Cloud©" wrote in message ... NO! Really? Yes. Really. I guess my very obvious and pointed sarcasm parted your hair in the middle as it flew over your head. No, not really. Just demonstrating how ridiculous you sound. But you're right...you don't need any help from me. reading is not your problem. Comprehension is your problem, dimwit. What grade are you in? Please read the subject line to find out what the thread is about. My reply was a direct response to Krause's observance that the "siphoning" of fuel would be coming to the marinas. Again...maybe if you go back and read s-l-o-w-e-r... Oh, I sincerely doubt that, although if you ever knew anything at all, it does appear you've forgotten it, Wetsock. Take care Rusty, and good luck in the new school year. -- -Netsock "It's just about going fast...that's all..." http://home.columbus.rr.com/ckg/ |
"Red Cloud©" wrote in message ... It's not my fault that neither you or Krause considered that "siphoning" was not the only means of stealing gasoline from boats. Wow. First, you cant read whats there, and now, you add to whats already there. Nice work. I guess he wants to pretend to steal gas, like he pretends to boat. "John Wentworth" wrote in message ... Those that are (one boatel, a few acres of yards) are mostly fenced off with 9' chain link. The docks themselves (except for the public guest docks) are accessible from land by key only, but it's only too easy to grab the door as someone is leaving. Of course, access from the water is WIDE open (which is probably what happened to my uncle). "Security" does patrol, but for the most part I get the impression that they're looking for people parking in the lot without a permit. My Blue-Boat stays safely at home in a locked garage. However, on the rare occasion when I leave her at the open guest dock unattended overnight (for a quicker early-morning departure), everything that isn't bolted down comes with me. The gear box, electronics, and two 6.6 gallon tanks are just too easy to walk off with in the middle of the night. I get it all in one cart load, and even in broad daylight in front of tens of witnesses I've never been questioned about stripping the boat nearly bare. Kinda scary, actually. -- ~/Garth - 1966 Glastron V-142 Skiflite: "Blue-Boat" "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." -Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows |

I said you "overlooked" it when you made your statement. face it, you did! I tend to think you know there are other ways of stealing gasoline, and "siphoning" was simply your usenet shorthand for "stealing", which is the word in the subject line. Wetsock, however, is just plain clueless, and no amount of tutoring will cure an imbecile like him. *PLONK* -- Dag. |

Really pathetic, Wetsock! Putting in an apostrophe and an extra "e" is not a typo. There's at least 150 boats on trailers at a marina near me...I wonder if anyone watches the place after hours. Ah, the proverbial back-pedal. Tell us Krause, which marina has "150 boats on trailers" in late August? I go to Whiskey Island marina on Lake Erie, and it is a HUGE marina, and I only recall about 12-15 boats trailered there, and I think most of those were in for service. You didn't "correctly" point out anything...other than your inability to grasp simple English.
