Is my outboard dead?

Hi,
The prop on my old 2hp Suzuki hit a rock recently. Thinking I'd done
the shear pin had a look to find that the previous owner had replaced
the shear pin with a nut and bolt. The prop spins freely and does not
engage with drive shaft. Can I presume this is a write off?

Thanks

I'd at least disassemble until I found the problem. Then decide.

What year is it? They stopped using shear pins many years ago.

I'd suspect a broken shaft in the lower unit. Couldn't hurt to take it
apart and give it a look.

Where do you live, I work on outboards and will be happy to give it a look
over.

Thanks for the advice, I'll open it up and keep my fingers crossed. I
guess the outboard would be at least 15-20 yrs old I'll try and find
out. Don thanks for the offer, I'm in OZ so a bit far from your neck of
the woods.
