I am looking at replacing the gas tank on my 1991 Sylvan Pontoon.
Currently it has the metal gas tank. I was looking at maybe getting a couple plastic ones. Do they make these for pontoons? Is there anything I should look for? I was looking at overtons but couldnt tell if those tanks would work or not. Please let me know if I can use the plastic gas cans instead of the metal ones. Thanks for your help. Andy |

Yes, you can use plastic tanks. I assume your boat does not have a built in
tank but rather "portable" metal 6 gallon tanks. If the tanks set outside in the sun all the time - the plastic ones will not hold up as many years due to UV aging. Over time they will fade, warp, and possibly crack. However, plastic tanks are a lot easier to find these days and are cheaper. Should last 5 years or more w/ no problems. -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Andy" wrote in message m... I am looking at replacing the gas tank on my 1991 Sylvan Pontoon. True enough, but, steel gas tanks can and will rust. I bought a boat that had a portable, flat 11 gal. tank, put gas in it, and it leaked like a sieve!! Plus, like you stated, the plastic ones are cheap. One thing I noticed with the plastic ones are that if the vent is closed, and the sun hits it, because of thermal expansion, they'll look like a balloon! |

Check Cabelas or Bass Pro shops. They list a variety of fuel tanks along
with the physical dimensions. -- Public Fishing Forums Fishing Link Index www.YumaBassMan.com webmaster at YumaBsssMan dot com "Andy" wrote in message m...
