Bayliner 1990 120hp L-Drive Shake
Looking for help diagnosing L-Drive problem. We bought a 1990 L-Drive
last spring. It had a rebuild Engine. We rebuild the drive between the power head and the lower unit this winter. The current problem is after driving for awhile (5-10minutes) it has a terrible power surge, undersurge. Do not know how to describe it, but we are going along all of a sudden it feels like we hit a rock. It feels like the Engine is dieing and then suddenly re-engages giving a heck of a shock. This will continue to happen, accept it is so vilant we slow down. We start driving again, it seems to be fine. We start getting up to speed and it re-occurrs. We can drive at slow speeds and it does not seem to occur. I went by myself (less torque) and everything seemed fine for about 3 minutes and then one big jerk. This one ended up breaking the pivot linkage for the shift cable located by the lower unit. I suspect a problem with the clutch in the lower unit, but wanted to ask if anyone had similiar problems with L-Drive. I understand the lower unit is the same used on outboard 90hp and 120hp units. The L-Drive was a unique design that placed the motor behind the rear seat with a drive shaft to the lower unit. If someone has experienced a similiar problem on a regular outboard or an L-drive, I would appreciate knowing what your solution was. Thanks Eric |
