mercury optimax 135 hp 2005 and oil use

We just got a new mercury optimax 135 hp (four cycle, of course) and
during its break-in it used a lot of oil. Is this normal? And how much
is too much and should I start worrying? (If everything was full from
the dealer, it was about 2 gallons low of oil after 2 hours of break-in.)

Optimax is a 2 stroke. Fuel injected.

True, but that's still a lot of oil in 2 hours... unless he went through 50
gal of fuel.

Matt,

If it's an Opti it's not a four cycle, eh?

It is a 2 stroke, my bad, but we did not go through 50 gallons, we went
through 3 gallons of gas. There was no smoke. IF I start measuring
now, what kind of oil usage should I see per gallon of gas used? 1
quart per 5 gallons? or is it in time (1 quart per two hours) For all
I know, the dealer did not have the oil completely filled.

the motor will either double or run at 1:50 straight during break in. I
forgot but can look it up.

The optimax has the following oil use AFTER break in:

Idle: 1:300 - 400
1500 - 5000 RPM: 1:60-70
WOT: 1:50

give or take a little and monitor your oil and gas use... if its
drastically different somehting is wrong or the ECU doesnt come out of
break in mode. This used to happen years back
