Used Price of 5HP 2-stroke?

I'm being offerred a Nissan 5hp 2-stroke short-shaft in the usual
half-decent condition of lightly used dingy motors that are 10+ years
old & spent most if its life on a pulpit bracket with minimal
maintenance (as most do). Internal tank & no frills. Call it an 8 of
10 cosmetically & mechanically. These motors are all the same
(Nissan/Tohatsu/Merc/etc). What are people reasonably paying for one
in private deals, from the classifieds or whatever? I am very familiar
with these motors but have no idea what they are going for these daze.
Much TIA.

We purchased that exact outboard (but with a longshaft) new in late 1999 or
early 2000 for around $850 (on sale).

If you can get that 10+ year old outboard for $450 you are getting a nice
deal, assuming it is in good running condition and has good compression. I
would guess the selling price, though, to be over $500.

Even 50 year old 5 hp outboards are fetching good money. We sold an old 5
hp Johnson SeaHorse (vintage mid 1950's) 5 years ago for $120. My son ran
aground with it in our inflatable and broke the prop. We sold it for that
price with the broken prop (and external tank).

I sold a '95 6 horse Johnson in February for $625.

Thank you - but that's a totally different class of motor: another HP,
very smooth & sweet with 2 cylinders, upgradeable to remotes &
alternator & e-start, and the "cream of the crop" J-name. I would've
paid that for it too if it were well-kept & I had the $$.

Really? Damn - I should have asked $1,000 for it. :)

I know that new Johnsons in this class are running around a grand if
you shop around. Used, I was actually in the middle based on my
research - anywhere from $550 to $700 depending on if it was a tiller
or not.

As to used Nissan's, I can't tell you - I'd only be guessing based on
new pricing, but just guessing I'd be willing to pay $400.

I did all that B4 posting to a NG. I've come to the conclusion it's a
$300 motor & maybe iffy at that. Of course, if I turn it down for
that, when I look for one again they'll be $937.50.
