Normally there is no need to keep tension on a splice while you are
making it.

What exactly are you trying to do??

If a skydiver is asking you really don't want to know!

Back when I was jumping when it was too windy or the clouds were less than
800 feet we got into some really stupid things. The dumbest I did involved a
creeper, mechanics type, a 26 foot round parachute and a big asphalt parking
lot. That's the day I learned it was possible to kiss your own ass.

According to someone here, whatever tool you use, it needs to be coated
with oil!

If you do a quick search you will see there are 1000's of web sites who
recommend this same procedure.
