Black mark removal

My boat is routinely lifted by a fork lift to be put on a rack. The lift has
left many black streaks on the bottom of the boat. Now the marina has finally
bought new covers for the forks, so I'm thinking of cleaning the marks off.

West Marine sells stuff to do the job, supposedly. Has anyone ever used it? Any
recommendations on how to do it?

Thanks!

The black streak remover that west sells is for streaks down the sides.

You need polish and some elbow grease. Don't forget to wax.

To to WalMart and buy some Soft Scrub Plain.

Little elbow grease, little wax and your all set.

Magic Erasers by Johnson and Johnson ( I think ) I don't know how they work
but they do. We use them on just about everything.

Pesonally , I would bitch at the marina and have them remove the marks, they
put them there

Well, thanks to all for the advice. Looks like it's going to take work. Damn.

I've already bitched at the marina. It's 'just one of those things'. If I left
it in the water, I'd have to remove barnacles. Oh well.

Now that's an offer. You previously offered to take JohnH out on your
boat & he declined...it'll be interesting to see if he takes you up on this.

John,

Suggest you try Goo Gone before anything else. It's amazing what that stuff
will soften. Follow with some fiberglass polish and a buffer.

Good luck.

Good old kerosene would probably work also....it will also strip the wax so
you would have to touch it up afterwards.

I wonder if mineral spirits would work, without messing up the gel coat?

I would not think mineral spirits or kerosene would mess up the gelcoat. If
you get into something with a high solvent content like acetone it would
definitely soften up the gelcoat.

Well, maybe this won't be as much work as I feared. If I can spray and wipe with
the mineral spirits, that would be much easier than breaking out the
buffer/polisher.

Heck WD40 might also work.
